CHAPTER ELEVEN

Darius

Fucking feelings were pulsing through Darius’s body while he had attempted to get some rest earlier. His dragon still fumed with anger even with them both quietly walking through town. They had flown to Calgary right near the US border to save some driving time. They had to be careful of hunters, but Darius knew the path to take. Charlie had kept oddly quiet since he came to get her earlier in the morning.

Darius had no fucking clue what to say to her. She had been the one to suggest the arrangement of completing the bond but not staying together. He didn’t know what the hell to even say. He liked the agreement, he didn’t have to worry about a mate and his dragon wouldn’t go fucking crazy. In theory, it was the best of both worlds. But why is my stomach in fucking knots?

“This is where we are staying?” Charlie looked up at the Fairmont Palliser hotel.

“What? Is this not fancy enough for you?” Darius glanced her way with his eyebrow raised. His brother had been the one to make the reservation.

“I feel underdressed to be here.” Charlie pulled at her coat, trying to cover up.

“Nonsense, you’ll be fine.” Darius winked and walked into the lobby. Her curves had been something he had been attracted to before she put everyone in danger with her bite. A young man stood behind the counter with a smile on his face. His dragon huffed with discontent.

“Good evening. Will you be checking in?” he asked then looked over at Charlie. His pupils dilated slightly, and Darius resisted the urge to growl at the man. The man’s trace reached Darius, the hints of wet dog had Darius correct his original assumption. The odor made it clear as dragon scales, they were dealing with a wolf. An unmated wolf from his scent as it carried no female traces.

“Yes. My mate and I will be checking in.” Darius reclaimed the pup’s attention.

“Don’t be rude.” Charlie pushed on his arm then leaned up on the counter showing off her breasts. “How are you doing tonight?” Her voice rose an octave. Darius received a nice view of her ass as she pushed it out to get better leverage on the counter.

“Lovely. You’re one lucky man.” He nodded toward Darius for a moment before returning to stare at Charlie. His dragon lurched forward to defend his mate from the wolf’s advances, but Darius pushed his beast back.

“He likes to share me sometimes. When do you get off?” Charlie winked with a smile. Darius’s jaw dropped for a split second before he snapped it closed and ground his teeth together. They were now mates in name only, but his dragon blew fire in his mind.

“I-” he started but stopped when Darius growled low. Charlie’s head snapped back to look at him, a challenge in her eyes making his dragon perk up a bit.

“We would like to get our room key.” Darius kept his glare on Charlie and the wolf typed quickly on the computer.
